benediction

the word, I believe, is benediction–
the way one stump rotting away
is replaced, in time, by another–
how cathedrals are drawn from forests,
their unending climb toward heaven–
that looking into the lake of wonder
you can’t know how deep you can see
till something moves down there.
we are meant to take these not as gifts
but as mirrors.

Benediction is a piece born from grief, a letting go of something dear. Sable made it as a cathartic piece in the midst of a personal loss, as a meditative reflection on the nature of mourning, change, and healing. Although the choreography has been reset to two different songs since its premier at Bloom: Return to Roots, the heart and meaning of Benediction remain the same.
