the glittering cave
Where mirror deep waits below, wade you
In echoed fells, sharp shimmer sheathless
Quivered as the chimaeric, coiling
Spirit slithers herself, pearl feathered floss
The gloss of her, glittering withered
Whether serpent, shifter, woman, saint
Or pagan pulled of cold flames or lake
What ill-kenned myth lore led, laid you fore
Her ancient entwine, this malefic divine
In this scintillate, endless abyss
Inspired by Skaldic tradition and depictions of Grendel’s mother in the epic poem Beowulf, the Glittering Cave is a fantastical hoop solo created and performed by Sable. In this piece we imagine a warrior entering a legendary cavern in search of glory. But in their pursuit of treasure and acclaim they also find something unnatural.
